Tubular Stranding Machines

The main applications of high-speed tubular stranding machines are as follows:

  • Production of compacted or conventional wire ropes and strands made from bright, galvanized, or stainless steel wire
  • Production of pre-stretched and non-pre-stretched elevator ropes
  • Bowden cables
  • Special wire ropes

Tandem tubular stranding machines can be operated either as two separate machines for the production of wire ropes with various constructions or as a single combined machine in which both machines operate together.

CSM METALURJI designs tubular stranding machines equipped with a tensioning unit for the high-speed production of elevator ropes. For the production of Bowden cables and special wire ropes, a bull-head feeding unit can be integrated into the tubular stranding machine.

Rotor Technology

The rotors consist of a series of tubular sections supported by bearings, providing high operating speeds, low power losses, and simplified maintenance. Depending on the bobbin size, each tubular section can be designed to accommodate up to four bobbins. The machine is equipped with systems for continuous monitoring of bearing lubrication and temperature.

Bobbin Tensioning Systems

Various systems are designed to meet specific requirements, as described below:

  • Standard bobbin brakes equipped with virtually wear-free Teflon brake elements or Kevlar brake cords
  • Cylindrical mechanical bobbin brakes
  • Spring-loaded mechanical bobbin brakes
  • Electrically actuated mechanical bobbin brakes with tension adjustment from the control panel
  • Electric bobbin brakes providing dynamic tension control through automatic tension measurement

Drive and Automation Technology

  • The machines are driven by frequency-controlled three-phase motors, providing independent drives for the rotor, haul-off, and take-up systems.
  • The lay length can be continuously adjusted from the control panel using digital control technology.
  • Operating speeds can be continuously adjusted from the operator panel.
  • PLC control, dedicated software, and touchscreen operation provide fully automatic process control and operation, machine monitoring, program management, speed and angle synchronization, torque and traction control, data recording and storage, as well as service and maintenance functions.
  • In the event of a power failure or emergency stop, controlled machine braking ensures that the relevant quality parameters of the product are maintained at all times.

Auxiliary Equipment

  • Stationary, rotating, or traversing pay-off and take-up units capable of accommodating bobbins with flange diameters of up to 3,000 mm.
  • Haul-off technology tailored to customer requirements, primarily based on double-capstan haul-off systems with pulling forces of up to 400 kN.
  • Preformers and postformers designed according to the technological characteristics of the final product to be manufactured.
  • Calibration and compacting equipment.
  • Wire rope and strand lubrication equipment.
  • Wire rope and strand tension measurement equipment.
